Item 44 — Sources of funding and other support; role of funders

Specify the sources of funding and other support and the exact role of the funders in performing the study. Indicate whether the authors had independence in each phase of the study.

Explanation and Elaboration: Authors should describe how funders contributed, whether through financial resources, in-kind, materials, or logistical support, and detail any other involvement in the study. Additionally, authors should indicate whether they retained full independence in conducting the study, free from any influence or control by the funders, particularly in areas critical to research integrity like data interpretation and publication of results. Any writing performed by parties not listed as authors should be disclosed, particularly if they are sponsors or paid by sponsors. This transparency allows readers to assess potential biases or conflicts of interests that may arise from funding sources.
